Hurricane Season Has Arrived

June 1st marked the beginning of the Atlantic hurricane season. As always, Toptech will be helping customers ensure each facility is prepared to continue operations with minimal interruptions. As you consider the systems in place to facilitate a successful season, here are a few ways Toptech’s products and services aid in the preparation and recovery from a hurricane:
MAKE ALLOCATION ADJUSTMENTS
Running out of product is a worst-case scenario. Before the area is impacted, you can prepare for the change in demand by adjusting allocations with TDS. In fact, you can modify the products and quantities for each customer until the moment loading begins.

SEND STATUS UPDATES
Often, cell service remains strong through the storm or is restored long before regular internet service, allowing Load2day to be used with any smartphone or tablet. Through Load2day’s Terminal Availability Notifications, customers can check the status of terminals and products, staying up to date about which locations are operational and stocked with the products they need.

AUTHORIZE LOCALLY
When internet goes down, TMS6 can be used to locally authorize drivers. Each location should determine prior to the storm if they will allow local authorizations. Please contact the terminal to find out if their system is set up to permit loading without internet.

ADD DRIVERS ON THE FLY
After the storm, you may find that you are the only nearby operational terminal. That means you will likely have many new drivers that will need to load at your facility. Fortunately, with cell service, using Load2day makes it easy to continue adding drivers with any smartphone or tablet. Updated Master File Data will be sent to TMS as soon as internet is restored.

RESTORE OPERATIONS
Toptech highly recommends having backup servers in a separate location to be fully prepared in the event of a flood. TMS6 is compatible with an array of 3rd party backup services. In addition, Toptech provides data and configuration snapshots of your systems, as well as servers with redundant disks (RAID). In the event of an approaching hurricane, simply move a disk to the spare server for a fully functional, identical system ready to go in case your primary server is damaged. As always, you are welcome to contact us for insight into other disaster recovery methods being utilized in the industry.

With 30 years of experience alongside customers in every type of weather event, Toptech is pleased to help you maintain and quickly resume operations. Feel free to contact us for more information about how we can help.
