Many fuel terminals struggle with long lines at their loading bays. Fuel trucks can sometimes wait for hours to load, only to arrive at the bay to find out the product they need is unavailable or that they are not authorized to load. When drivers get stuck, they contact the terminal operator, who then needs to figure out how to resolve the issue.
As a result, operations grind to a halt, as operators try to identify and resolve the issue. Under this kind of pressure, it’s no wonder terminal operators can make an entry error, which could result in even further delays and downstream problems.
Meanwhile, trucks continue to back up, the carrier’s schedule is thrown off, and customers don’t receive their fuel.
