You may have heard the phrase: “move fast and break things.” Last week, Toptech Systems released the latest version of their terminal management system - TMS7 version 7.6.5. But this update includes automation efficiencies that help terminals “move faster,” while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and security.
Transporting product over rail is a flexible, lower-carbon alternative to trucking, and rail is growing in popularity. For this release, a new Railcar module was created specifically for Canadian terminals. This module supports loading and delivering products to railcars (trains) and railcar containers at the terminal.
The Railcar module allows users to create and manage orders for railcar containers. A new maintenance screen allows for managing railcar seals and creating manual transactions.
To further speed things up, when an order is created and authorized using the 'Rail' Shipping Method, users can now book a Railcar Order Transaction directly from the Order record instead of navigating to the Railcar Order Transaction screen.

TMS customers have been able to create, view, email and print audit logs, allowing them to track (and rollback) every change made in the system, by any user. Customers have said that these audit reports have become critical for error tracking, accountability and for compliance reporting. And now, the feature is even better. With version 7.6.5, customers can run and export audit reports, based on a user, date ranges or both. Instead of view-only, now users can export these reports to a text or PDF file.

Let’s talk speed. Many terminals still use splash blending as a quick and simple method of mixing two or more fuel or oil components. Instead of blending ingredients in a controlled tank, each product is added one after another directly into the same container (like a truck, railcar, or tank). If a terminal needs 80% diesel and 20% biodiesel, splash blending allows the 80% diesel to be pumped into the truck, followed by the 20% biodiesel, pumped in right after.
The issue comes in tracking inventory for each component used in a splash blend. Up to now, there was no way to accurately track each base component in a splash blend.
For manual transactions, version 7.6.5 now breaks down each individual component in a splash blend to allow terminals to track inventory more accurately. This enhancement allows terminals to continue to move fast when they need to, while accurately tracking their inventory, when they do.
Moving fast doesn’t have to mean greater vulnerability. The threat landscape is constantly changing, which is why Toptech performs third-party Web Application Scanning (WAS) audits periodically to ensure the TMS7 and Tophat 7 applications are secure.
We’re thrilled to report that based on the last WAS audit, all components were retested, and TMS7 emerged with flying colors. We know how important security is to our customers, and this release shows that moving fast and improving security are both achievable. For a copy of the report, contact Toptech.
In addition to these enhancements, version 7.6.5 also includes other efficiency features, including standardized Column-Filters in Gauge and Meter Entry screens that allow users to filter the data by any column.
“Move fast and break things” might be fine for some businesses, but in the oil and gas industry, terminal owners need automation that increases efficiency and accuracy, while hardening security and reliability. The new release support this. To learn more about TMS7, check out our product page or contact us for a demo, today.
